Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville recently addressed the annual Grand Bahama Medical and Dental Association Conference where he outlined plans to improve healthcare coordination.
Dr. Darville told those in attendance, “the Rand Memorial Hospital is not fully a 100% tertiary healthcare facility. We are in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Princess Margaret Hospital where certain key services that are not provided in Grand Bahama must be provided in New Providence. And I’m building that MOU to make it more stronger so that when our consultants in Grand Bahama refer patients to New Providence at the Princess Margaret Hospital there would be a better connection so that the residents of Grand Bahama do not suffer as a result of this MOU.”
Also addressing the conference was Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey who revealed plans for new medical infrastructure on the island. She said, “we are pushing forward with the development of the $210 million Freeport Health Campus including an oncology center on East Sunrise Highway. We are excited that the Doctors Hospital flagship facility on the Mall Drive is nearing completion and looking forward to a model partnership for innovative healthcare solutions. We are also excited by ongoing investments by Sunrise Medical Center, Lucayan Medical Center and so many others.”
