Urban Renewal, in collaboration with the Ministry for Grand Bahama, is bringing relief to homeowners throughout Grand Bahama with the commencement of the Government’s Small Home Repairs Programme.
Minister of Urban Renewal and Community Relations, the Hon. Lisa Rahming and Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey headed a team of civil engineers and architects on October 23, 2026 to conduct initial assessments on a number of prospective homes on Grand Bahama before beginning the scope of works.
Minister Rahming noted that her crew was on the ground as promised and will be working alongside Minister Moxey’s capital works team to evaluate work already carried out, determine the repairs necessary and chart the way forward.
“We have the persons from the Ministry of Grand Bahama and the Small Homes
Repairs from Urban Renewal, they are here assessing it together, working together to ensure that we get this done,” she said.

While at the first home, that of a 71-year-old widow in the community of Hawksbill in need of a complete roof overhaul, the Urban Renewal Minister assured that the team will do as much as they can to get as many homes repaired and bring respite to the residents as soon as they can.
“This won’t be a slow process, this one is going to be quick along with the others,” Minister Rahming said.
Minister Moxey expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing that the collaborative efforts of both teams will make a meaningful and lasting impact on people’s lives.
“This is what true partnership is. So, we’re going to work together, we’re going to make sure it happens and we’re going to ensure that we’re doing things that improve the lives of our people,” she said.
Minister Moxey noted that while it is the start of the collaboration, it will not be limited to home repairs. Homeowner Lilla McKinney expressed heartfelt gratitude to Urban Renewal for being among those set to receive assistance through the Small Home Repairs Programme.
She explained that she has experienced ongoing roofing problems since Hurricane Dorian and welcomed the support to address the issues that have long affected her home.
As the Government continues its efforts to restore dignity, improve living conditions and strengthen communities throughout The Bahamas, homeowners in need of assistance are encouraged to apply for support through the Small Home Repairs Programme.
Applicants are required to provide valid identification and proof of homeownership to be considered for assistance.
