The Urban Renewal Authority hosted senior citizens from three centres to its Range of Motion initiative at the Lewis Yard Urban Renewal location on Thursday, January 22, 2026 for an exercise regimen as part of its Healthy Living Programme for the elderly.
Seniors were bussed in from Urban Renewal Centres from Eight Mile Rock and Seahorse to join their comrades at the Lewis Yard Centre.
The Programme, which consists of a series of stretches and workouts, is led by former bodybuilder, Samuel “Zulu” Williams and offers the seniors an opportunity to have their blood pressure and glucose tested.
Deputy Director of the Urban Renewal Authority, Senator Kirkland Russell, said the Authority has partnered with Nurse Shirley Bain and the Retired Nurses Association to assist with providing the senior citizens with the proper guidance towards healthy living, along with offering free testing.
“We’re going to expand this programme to all seven centres on this island,” he said.
“It’s all about making them feel good about themselves and at the same time making sure that they are healthy and they are able to get in the necessary exercise that they would not normally do.”
Williams, who is also a senior citizen and a 60-year veteran in the business, stressed how essential exercise is for prolonged life.
