The US Charge D’Affaires in The Bahamas held a reception for women at her residence where she spoke of her wish to see more women enter politics in the country.
One of the attendees at the event was former Attorney General and first female Chair of the Board of Trustees at the University of The Bahamas Allyson Maynard-Gibson who gave her views on the issue. She said, “we’re not trying to exclude men, we’re recognizing that until and unless we have women at the table we’re actually losing, a bird can’t fly on one wing. We can’t have efficiency in terms of anything with our development unless women are also at the table as equal partners with men. And I want to say that I’m not saying to have a woman at the table because she’s a woman. We have extraordinarily competent women here in The Bahamas.”
Wife of the Prime Minister, Mrs. Ann Marie Davis was also in attendance at the event.
