The Hon. Myles Laroda along with the Hon. Lisa Rahming, the Hon. Glenys Hanna Martin and Wife of the Prime Minister, Mrs. Ann Marie Davis attended a church service at Bethel Baptist Church on Sunday to launch Women’s Week.
In his remarks during the service Laroda told congregants, “we recognize the sacrifices and contributions of the leading suffragettes Mary Ingraham, Mable Walker, Georgina Symonette, Eugenia Lockhart and your very own Dame Doris Johnson.”
He continued, “since gaining the right to vote women have excelled in holding key positions in the public and private sector. We are proud of the achievement of our women who stand on the shoulders of the trailblazing matriarchs. Despite the accomplishments the women have made greater efforts are needed toward the achievement of equity, equality and empowerment.”
While at Bethel Baptist Church officials laid a wreath at the gravesite of Dame Doris Johnson just outside of the church.
The theme of this year’s Women’s Week is ‘Accelerating Equity, Equality and Empowerment Of Women and Girls’.
