Marking its 10th year, the Ole Freetown Heritage Festival Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism (MOT), held a press conference to officially announce the return of the Fire Hearth Food and Heritage Festival.
The event will take place on Whit Monday, May 25, 2026 beginning at 12:00pm at the Freetown Heritage Site in East Grand Bahama.
“The heritage festival is all about recognising and bringing to life our heritage. Every year we celebrate where we came from, where we are now as a people, and where we are going,” said Vice-President, Ole Freetown Heritage Festival Committee, Vivian McIntosh.
Residents and visitors can look forward to participating in traditional Bahamian games and fun activities, including a washtub competition, watermelon-eating and onion-peeling contests, indulging in local Bahamian cuisine and witnessing the famous “Fire Half Cooking Competition.”
President of the Ole Freetown Heritage Committee, Beulah Higgs shared that the festival will showcase live entertainment by local artists, including the Island Vibes Band, D-Mac and more.
MOT will provide bus transportation for guests from hotels in the Freeport area, with pick-up scheduled for 1:00pm.
