At a ceremony held this week to unveil plans for a new police headquarters for the island of Abaco, the Member of Parliament for Central and South Abaco, the Hon. John Pinder commented on the rise in crime on the island.
Pinder told ZNS News, “there has been an uptick which is troubling Abaconians but just like you would see in Nassau it designate to certain areas. And I know with a bit more resources that the Royal Bahamas Police Force will be able to keep this under control. Abaco is one of those place where we have a booming economy and there is a lot of influx of people from around the country and around the world coming here to find a better life or to feed their families. So as this progresses there will be crime that goes with that.”
Police Chief Superintendent, Will Hart also spoke about the increased crime issue. He said, “there is a concern with the uptick in the recent murders. The crime on the whole is not a representation of the community of Abaco and these isolated incidents we’re actively on the ground and we will come back with some good result. Let me just say too, you know, we have persons who are watching who are responsible for committing these crime, we will come after you.”
There have been three murder recorded on the island of Abaco since the start of the year.
