The remains of the former Member of Parliament for Tall Pines and former Deputy Speaker of the House Of Assembly, Don Saunders lied in state in the foyer of the House Of Assembly on Thursday.
Governor General, Her Excellency the Most Hon. Cynthia Pratt, Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Chester Cooper along with Chief Justice, Sir Ian Winder and Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard were among those paying their respects.
Cooper spoke with reporters outside of the House about Saunders. He said, “he was passionately about politics and he understood that politics was only the vehicle to national service. And today we remember him, we mourn with his family and his political colleagues, but for me this is very personal. Often times we contribute significantly to our work and sometimes it is at great sacrifice to our families and the people around us. So this teaches us that our days are numbered and we must live each day to its fullest.”
Saunders will be funeralized at St. Agnes Anglican Church on Friday, April 19th.
