Acting Press Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Keishla Adderley addressed reporters questions on the issue of abortion at a press briefing held on Thursday past.
Adderley said, “obviously the issue was in the new lately because of some unfortunate circumstances but if the outcry reaches the level where there administration feels that it should be pushed to the forefront and a wider conversation should be had then the government would be minded to do so and engage all of the relevant stakeholders on the issue.”
Several incidents concerning the subject of abortion have happened recently to bring the subject to the forefront of public discourse. Recently it was revealed that an eleven year old girl received a pill induced abortion after being impregnated by her mother’s boyfriend. Last week, Gynecologist and son of former Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis was charged along with two females for performing and abortion on a 15 year old girl on the island of Harbour Island.
