Bahamas attends 75th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland

The 75th World Health Assembly officially convened Sunday 22nd May, 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland. The theme of this year’s conference is “Health for Peace, Peace for Health”.

Leading the delegation from the Bahamas is Minister of Health & Wellness, the Honourable Dr. Michael Darville who says, “The Bahamas delegation will be working with countries to stabilize existing relations and forge new mutually beneficial partnerships.”

Delegates attending have an ambitious agenda before them as the COVID-19 pandemic undermined progress towards health-related targets listed on the Sustainable Development Goals. In the words of current WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros – as he is commonly called, the pandemic laid bare the inequities within, and between countries. The conference will also include the appointment of the next World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General. The 75th World Health Assembly will conclude on Saturday 28th May, 2022.

Senator the Honourable L. Ryan Pinder will be Acting Minister of Health & Wellness, 22nd– 28th May, 2022. Follow the Ministry of Health & Wellness on Facebook at MOHBahamas for daily updates.
