With the current turmoil underway in Haiti, the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe says that the Bahamas would send troops as part of a multinational peacekeeping mission should it be the will of the Caribbean Community.

Minister Munroe spoke to reporters on the issue while attending the weekly meeting of cabinet. He said, “if that is the determination, the Defense Force will be ready, willing and able to deploy, that is what we have them for. people get this impression that they just sit down doing nothing. They sit down preparing for deploys to protect the national interests of The Bahamas. The national interest of The Bahamas, overarchingly, is to see peace in this region. And if we are called upon to provide me, we will.”

The Bahamas has participated in peacekeeping missions in Haiti before from 1994-1996.
