Bahamian student, Jervon Sands is set to become a Rhodes Scholar after capturing the award representing the Commonwealth Caribbean.
Sands, who is a Applied Physics major at Saint John’s University, will be attending the prestigious Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Sands reacted by saying, “I’m very grateful to be in this position and I’m very excited for the work I will be doing moving forward when I return from my studies and working in the region.”
Sands says that he intends to focus his studies on climate change. “It’s one of the most pressing problems, the climate crisis, and I want to be a part of making solutions to inform the Caribbean and safeguard Caribbean countries.”
The Bahamas now has four Rhodes Scholars.
