Bahamian born Wayne Jones has become the first black police chief of the Miami Beach Police Department.
Jones told ZNS News of his achievement, “there is nothing special about me. I’d like people to think when they see me there’s nothing special about Wayne Jones and you can do anything you really, really put your mind to. It requires some work and dedication, motivation, but if Wayne Jones can do it, you can do it too.”
The Police Chief moved to the United States at the age of 18 after completing his education at C.W. Sawyer Primary School, S. C. McPherson and A. F. Adderley in The Bahamas. Jones is a 27 year veteran of the police force, a husband and father of two. He says the most special thing about him that he is “of Bahamian blood, Bahamian heritage through and through.”
