The Caribbean Week of Agriculture meetings officially kicked off at the Breezes Resort on Tuesday with an opening ceremony attended by Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis, Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Jomo Campbell and other government officials.
In his remarks Minister Campbell told the gathering, “I believe that a common goal we must share is establishing a sustainable strategy to empower our farmers to grow more food.”
The keynote address was delivered by Prime Minister Davis. “In The Bahamas we are making unprecedented investments in food production and food security in the form of climate, land and research grants and the provision of infrastructural support to packing houses, abattoirs and other publicly funded facilities. We also have plans to drive a domestic take over of egg production with a long term goal of targeting the lucrative poultry market.”
The meetings will continue in the capital for the remainder of the week.
