For over 33 years, Great Commission Ministries has focused on defending the rights of the poor and providing resources for children, ex-convicts and substance abusers. The non-profit, non-government organization operates feeding centers, food banks,
orphanages, shelters for homeless persons and drug rehabilitation programs. Now, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to take its toll on many Bahamians, Great Commission Ministries has described itself as being “stretched, overwhelmed, and in need of help”, calling on the government and the private sector to assist.
Staff of Bahamas Wealth Management, aware of this call for help, selected Great Commission Ministries as the charity of choice for their annual Adopt-A-Cause event. Bahamas Wealth Management, which includes FirstCaribbean International Trust Company (Bahamas) Limited (formerly CIBC Trust) and Private Wealth Management, donated a brand new washer and freezer along with over $1,000 worth of meat, dry goods and other much-needed grocery items.
“We know that Great Commission Ministries has been around for quite a while- for over 30 years, in fact. You started your ministry with a view and a purpose of helping the poor, the needy, and the homeless.
“We have observed you fulfilling that ministry over these years. Anyone can see lines of people being fed and their needs being met every time they ride pass here on a daily basis,” said Perry Rolle, Managing Director of CIBC Trust Company (Bahamas) Limited. He continued, “We, the wealth arm of CIBC FirstCaribbean in conjunction with its charitable arm, FirstCaribbean ComTrust Foundation and its Adopt-a-Cause programme, thought it would be fitting for us as a group and entity to work with Great Commission Ministries this year, particularly with everything going on due to COVID-19.
“We know you rely on help such as this and are pleased to be a part of helping you fulfill your ministry and fulfill your purpose. Our prayer is that you continue to do that, not only this year but the years to come as well. We are hopeful and prayerful that our donation today will help you,” he added. Management and staff of Great Commission Ministries were blown away by the kind gesture and expressed their heartfelt thanks to the committee for their donation.

The Adopt-A-Cause event is ordinarily a hands-on effort involving all staff. However, due to the ongoing pandemic and mandated social distancing protocols currently in place, staff were unable to participate and interact in their usual manner. Nevertheless, committee members were delighted to make the presentation on behalf of the team. The committee was extremely pleased to answer the call for assistance made by Great Commission Ministries as its many charitable efforts continue to make a positive difference within the community.
