The Commonwealth Election Observer Group has released a report on the general elections held on May 12th, 2026.
The group was chaired by former Jamaican Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding. The other members included Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer at the Elections and Boundaries Department in Belize; Orin Gordon, a journalist from Guyana; and Estelle Thadea Alaine George, a legal and governance professional from St. Lucia.
The group concluded that the 2026 general election was “credible, peaceful, and competitive, and that the results reflect the will of those Bahamians who participated.”
The group also made twenty-eight recommendations in the report that included an independent body to manage elections, legislation to regulate campaign financing, the establishment of a code of political conduct and the full implementation of the Freedom of Information Act 2017.
