Member of Parliament for South and Central Abaco, the Hon. John Pinder gave an update on construction of the hurricane shelter located in Central Pines, Abaco.
Pinder told ZNS News that when an assessment was conducted of the building by new contractors hired under the current administration they found serious issues. “They realized that none of the foundation was done properly, that there were sinkholes under the foundation, it wasn’t compacted, there was organic debris under there and so on so forth. So over a million dollars was spent and it was not adequate to build upon.”
The Member of Parliament added, “the contractor did what they had to do. They have rectified the problem. They have fixed a firm hurricane resistant foundation and they are going up with walls. So we are now on track to have it completely finished, I believe they said October/November.”
According to Pinder a investigation is being carried out on the execution of the project that led to the foundation issues.
