Dept. of Marine Resources warns about capture of bill-fish

The Department of Marine Resources advising members of the public that any billfish caught in Bahamian waters should be returned to the sea unharmed.

The report comes following a video went viral on social media showing the capture and landing of a blue marlin, which is the national fish of The Bahamas.

The department indicated that the only exception to this policy includes billfish caught under the terms of an approved sports-fishing tournament.

Examples of billfish include sailfish, swordfish and blue marlin.

The department wishes to thank members of the public for their continued support in managing these important marine species in a sustainable manner.
