The Department of Environmental Planning and Protection (DEPP) opened its Energy Audit and Solar Assessment Training Program on Monday.

Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources, the Hon. Vaughn Miller was that and addressed those in attendance. He said, “these investments they also decrease our dependence on foreign oil and also decrease our dependence on the country partners for assistance in the maintenance and the operation of the systems that are being deployed across the nation.”

Also on hand was Acting Director of DEPP, Dr. Rhianna Neely who told reporters on the sidelines of the event, “we have twenty people participating. They are from the government sector, from the private sector, from education. So we have some people BTVI, the University of The Bahamas, the Ministry of Works and like I said various private sector agencies are participating in the training over the next few weeks. And we will follow up with a one week workshop in June. The ladies and gentlemen that are participating in this workshop will sit a certification exam at the end of that process which will qualify them as energy efficient and solar assessment technicians.”
