The Free National Movement (FNM) held its first rally since the announcement of the date for the upcoming general elections at its headquarters in Grand Bahama over the weekend.
FNM Leader and candidate for Marco City, Michael Pintard and the four other candidates vying for seats on the island addressed the large crowd assembled. Candidate for Central Grand Bahama, Frazette Gibson said, “in 31 days our young people and seniors alike will have a government that really cares. A government that will work for all Bahamians, not just the select few.”
Kwasi Thompson, who is seeking re-election in the East Grand Bahama constituency, said the FNM is committed to bringing development to the island.
The Pineridge seat is being contested by Dr. Charlene Reid, she said she wants to see Bahamians get the healthcare they need without having to go abroad. “That is the commitment that I am making to Grand Bahama. That is the commitment that I am making to you.”
“Under the FNM we will back young people with $100 weekly stipend to support them through training programs.” This commitment was made during the presentation by West Grand Bahamas hopeful, Omar Issacs.
The Party’s leader, Michael Pintard questioned the Davis administration’s announcement on immigration system changes. He said, “you cannot expect the Bahamian people to trust a plan that exists because an election is coming. You walked off the job with five months left. If you wanted to put those penalties in place, that the Minister of National Security talked about, you would have take one more session to do it. So we know you’re playing. You pump fakin’. You taking us for conch, but we ain’ fa dat.”
The FNM is scheduled to host its next rally in New Providence on Tuesday, April 14th.
