Members of the Free National Movement (FNM) led by the Members of Parliament for East Grand Bahama, the Hon. Kwasi Thompson and Central Grand Bahama, the Hon. Iram Lewis gathered at the Ministry for Grand Bahama to voice their concerns about crime in the country.
Thompson told ZNS News, “we want to make it clear that crime is not a PLP problem, it is not an FNM problem but it is a Bahamian problem.”
He added, “this weekend we saw in New Providence another three murders. For a country of our size to have seventeen murders over twenty two days in this new year is completely unacceptable.”
According to Thompson, Deputy Leader of the FNM, the Hon. Shanendon Cartwright has made recommendations to the government on the crime issue. “He has put a very detailed, a very comprehensive plan and comprehensive set of recommendations that we believe the government ought to take a look at.”
For his part, Lewis said he has “never seen The Bahamas in this state in terms of crime. This is the worst that it has ever been.”
FNM Party Leader, the Hon. Michael Pintard led a similar event in the capital at the Office of the Prime Minister.
