President of the Bahamas Funeral Directors Association (BFDA) and proprietor of Ferguson’s Funeral Directors, Kirsch Ferguson is giving his take on the impact of crime on morticians.
Ferguson spoke with ZNS News on the subject and said, “its quite taxing and challenging for us in terms of man hours, resources and also being available to emotionally assist these families.”
He added, “there has been a need to bring in more staff especially on funeral days, weekends and what have you. In addition to in house staffing the hours have been extended just to accommodate families. If you notice most of these homicides happen normally in the wee hours of the morning and sometimes in broad daylight so we are challenged to be prepared and also to respond accordingly as we are needed by the Royal Bahamas Police Force.”
The BFDA President said that persons in the industry must find time for themselves to stay grounded.
There are have seventeen murder thus far in 2024.
