Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper was among twenty seven men honoured by the Fox Foundation at a gala event held at the Baha Mar Resort over the weekend.
Cooper told attendees, “I think I can comfortably speak for myself and my other honourees in saying that we are humbled by this award and to be honoured as a father and as legacy makers.”
The Deputy Prime Minister also spoke to the role of fathers in society. “Fatherhood is not about stature. It is not about the titles we carry, the public offices we hold or the applause we might receive. Fatherhood is about how we show up for our children, for our families and for those who look to us for guidance and strength. And even for those we do not biologically birth who count on us as a guiding light as father figures.”
Chosen father of the year by the Fo was Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, the Rt. Rev Laish Boyd. He said, “to many of us men do not consider the possible results of our conquests and recreation. Children happen and then we go oops sorry I can’t handle this, I’m busy see you later and the children suffer because we are not ready for what a child needs.
Fox Foundation Co-Founder, Adrianna Fox spoke with ZNS News on the sidelines of the event. She said, “my dad came up with this idea last year and he was like you know what they always giving us Crab n’ Rice…Crab n’ Rice. So he was like he believe that, and I also believe that, a lot of men do a lot of things in this country and it may be as simple as even being in the straight and narrow, going to your nine to five or accomplishing success businesses.”
Other honourees included cabinet ministers, the Hon. Wayne Munroe, the Hon. Alfred Sears and the Hon. Clay Sweeting; Comptroller of Customs, Ralph Munroe; Free National Movement National Chairman and Cardiologist, Dr. Duane Sands and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Rolle.
