Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources, the Hon. Vaughn Miller made his contribution to the 2025-2026 budget debate in the House Of Assembly last week.
During his presentation Miller said the Mining Act will soon be enacted. He said, “work is progressing on the regulations to bring the mining sector into force for the establishment of a mining Authority. Care will be taken in conjunction with the international community to establish parameters regarding the mining of sand as is happening with the mining of aragonite.”
The Minister also providing an update on the Nature Bond Agreement signed in November 2024. The project makes $124 million of cash funding for conservation over the next 15 years. Miller said, “it is an opportunity for government ministries and agencies as well as NGOs involved in the protection, conservation and management of our environment to benefit from necessary funding.”
The 2025-2026 budget debate continues in the House Of Assembly this week.
