Health and wellness minister, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville provided an update on the construction of the Freeport Health Campus while visiting Grand Bahama this week.
Officials are aiming for phases 1A and 1B to be completed by the end of 2027. Dr. Darville said, “we made a conscientious decision we would not wait for the entire complex to be completed for occupancy and we will occupy in a phased approach. And so the first phase approach will be the urgent care component as well as all of the new essential clinics.”
According to the Health minister, there was 18,000 square feet of space found in the project that will be used as a training center as part of the PHA (Public Hospitals Authority) Academy.
Construction of the facility is being spearheaded by Veritas Consultants. President and Managing Director John Michael Clarke said, “we believe this is an opportunity to make sure that the gap—some of the pre-existing gaps—are kind of closed and we get more Bahamians involved in this space. We’re able to utilize a lot of the Bahamian expertise in healthcare, which has grown tremendously over the last nineteen years.”
