GG Official Xmas Visit To Sandilands Rehabilitation Center

Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Cornelius Smith made his annual official to the Sandilands Rehabilitation Center.

A ceremony was held to mark the occasion where His Excellency delivered remarks praising the new mental health bill. “And so Mr. Minister, I am heartened by the provisions of the Mental Health Bill. This long overdue bill seeks to promote, to protect and to enforce the rights of persons who are diagnosed with or exhibiting symptoms of mental health issues.”

For His part, Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, who was also in attendance, commended the staff of Sandilands for providing exceptional service. “Throughout the past year the Sandilands Rehabilitation Center placed significant focus on training and service improvement. The training was aimed at building staff capacities and recommitment to deliver of service with excellence. Evidence in the historic training approach for the institution is that the first time the psychiatric mental health class for registered nurses included sixteen nurses from the Department of Public Health. This specialty within the field of nursing provides holistic care to individuals with mental disorders or behavioral problems so as to promote their physical, psychological well being.

The Chairman and Managing Director of the Public Hospitals Authority were also at the event.
