Representatives of the Junkanoo Corporation of New Providence (JCNP) met with Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mario Bowleg on Wednesday after it announced that all Junkanoo activities would be suspended. This came after the government announced its intention to introduce legislation to establish a national Junkanoo authority.
After the meeting Mr. Bowleg told reporters the two sides never had a bad relationship. He said, “husband and wife we so we sometimes row and get back to the table and renegotiate.”
For his part JCNP President, Dion Miller said, “we’ve enjoyed a 20 year partnership with the ministry. The minister and I have a personal relationship outside of our professional careers so there’s no animosity between us. We have to do a better job of stop allowing disgruntle elements that are still up and arms over a particular conflict to impede the progress of Junkanoo.”
No deal was struck at the meeting.
