Minister of Immigration and National Insurance, the Hon. Alfred Sears made his contribution to the 2025/2026 budget debate in the House Of Assembly on Tuesday.
During his presentation Sears spoke to the government’s efforts to strengthen the Department of Immigration through promotions, recruitment exercises and succession planning. He said, “within the next several weeks we will be delivering promotion, reclassification letters to hundreds of immigration officers. The last promotion was effective in 2019.”
The minister also spoke to the creation of a succession plan for the department. “Every office in the Department of Immigration will be held by an officer in the ranks. And we are concluding our consultation on the succession plan and will be unveiling that plan shortly,” he said.
Sears said recruitment and training are going really well and that additional officers will be deployed in Grand Bahama, Exuma and the Cays, Eleuthera and Abaco.
