The Department of Labour held a Labour On The Campus Careers Fair at the Andre Rodgers Stadium.
Minister of Labour and the Public Service, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle was in attendance and spoke to ZNS News on the sidelines of the event. She said, “we don’t only have employers present here but we have colleges present. We have institutions that provides scholarships to young people so that we are sending them on the trajectory, not only in terms of providing them with employment but those who want to pursue tertiary education before employment. This is the place, today, that we’ve brought it all together collaborating with the public and private sector to ensure that our young people are in a mode of preparation as they look to move out of the high school, move into tertiary level education and move into the work force.”
Also in attendance was Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin. She told the students, “that’s why education is so important, what you have in your head. It’s how you’re able to understand you’re reality, to critically think, to innovate, to create, to argue and debate and to advance the agendas. This how we see our young people. This what we want to happen in high school and primary school.”
Students from eleven public and private schools took part in the event.
