The Department of Labour formally launched it’s Labour On The Campus initiative this week with an event held at Government High School.

Both the Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin and the Minister of Labour and Immigration, the Hon. Keith Bell were in attendance and delivered remarks.

Minister Hanna-Martin told attendees, “it is a paradigm shift to a strategic focus to equipping our young people with the skills to meaningfully participate in the economy and to do so with excellence.”

For his part, Minister Bell said, “it was important, having done a number of Labour On The Blocks that we launch this Labour In The Schools. We decided to start at the Government High School because of several reasons. Most significantly because it was at Government High School [GHS] where it all began, education of the masses.”

This new initiative is meant to assist in preparing students for the job market.
