Commodore of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, Dr. Raymond King participated in the weekly press briefing held at the Office of the Prime Minister this week. King spoke to the effectiveness of the Force’s interception strategy and their need for resources as the country experiences a rise in illegal migration from Haiti.
“At this current moment what we have is adequate but as we continue to decentralize there is a strategic plan, we would have to recruit more. I have placed before the government a package to acquire additional safe boats. We’re in the procurement process now to acquire a second roll on – roll off vessel, a 62 meter patrol craft. I placed a package to acquire additional aircraft. There is an infrastructural upgrade package that we’re completing now for the honourable minister for the government to seek funding from public private partnership investments. But as we continue to build out we would need additional man power. We would need additional resources.”
