The Bahamas Maritime Authority is celebrating World Maritime Day. As part of those celebrations a panel discussion was held at the University of The Bahamas attended by students of the LJM Academy and the Maritime Cadet Corps.
Managing Director of the Bahamas Maritime Authority, Captain Dwayne Hutchinson was on hand and expressed his pleasure with the turnout at the event. Also present was Chairman of the Bahamas Shipowners Association, Mr. John Adams who said, “the Bahamas flag is always among the highest rated.” He also spoke to the career opportunities available in the maritime industry where there is currently a global employment shortfall saying, “the 26,000 creates a massive opportunity, a void that we can fill.”
Students who attended the event said the it will assist them in fine tuning their aspirations. Amalie Hart stated, “If we have more of these conferences, we can have more people out there that would be interested in the field.”
