The Minister of State for the Public Service, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle, gave an update on the ongoing negotiations between the government and the Bahamas Public Service Union [BPSU].
She told ZNS News, “the Bahamas government has given our final offer, one that we think is an excellent offer considering our fiscal state as a nation, considering the fact that public servants have not had an industrial agreement or any benefits of an industrial agreement for over four years. It was important, it was imperative that we got this agreement negotiated and we offered the best possible terms, something that you can call a great start.”
The government’s last offer was declined by the BPSU.
Glover-Rolle also spoke to the regularization of contract workers, “the goal is to have that completed by the end of 2023. Basically that is a process, we are looking ministry to ministry, department to department, persons who feel that they have been overlooked, I’ve always given my contact, people reach out, and we’re getting them sorted out. Because persons that are on contract or have been on temporary for excessive periods, we want to regularize them, make them permanent and pensionable.”
