The University of The Bahamas (UB) held a Baccalaureate Service (Spring 2022), Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Grace Community Gospel Chapel. The service was marked with hymns, prayers, scripture readings and musical selections. Members of the Class of 2022, faculty and administrators participated in the service. Senior Pastor Lyall Bethel gave the message. The theme for the event: ‘We Survived, Now We Thrive: Succeeding Against the Odds.’

University of the Bahamas President and CEO, Dr. Rodney Smith appealed to the Class of 2022 to pursue knowledge from the Lord. He cited Proverbs 1:7 ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.’

Dr. Smith said: “To love the Lord, follow his teaching and apply them to your life is the greatest learning you can do; more than making you smart, it leads to wisdom which is infinitely better than mere smarts.

“I have always felt the call of Christ on my life and I know that it is because of his guidance and direction that I have dedicated 46 years of my life to a career in education. He did not steer me wrong.

“Because I’ve listened to God, I’ve been able to work with some of the best educators and administrators throughout The Bahamas at what we know today as the University of The Bahamas.

“It is because of my experience that I encourage you students to listen to that still, small voice; to follow His direction for your life. If you do you will not be disappointed. Success will follow you; your dreams will become reality and you will be change-agents, making The Bahamas and the world much better places in which to live, grow and thrive.”

Dr. Smith also urged the Class of 2022 to stay in contact with the faculty, staff and members of the administration with whom they have built relationships during their years at UB.

“We’ve shared your successes along the way and taken the time to teach you in so many ways.

“It is because of these relationships that you will be proud to call the University of The Bahamas your alma mater, and know that UB will always be your home,” he added.

The UB Commencement ceremony takes place Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Atlantis Convention Centre.
