A man was stabbed to death on the streets of the capital is the country’s latest homicide.

Police are calling on members of the public to assist in locating the culprit responsible for the murder that took place early Monday morning on Collins Avenue.

Superintendent in charge of the central investigation department Shanta Knowles provided details of the early morning discovery at the scene.

“Our police control room received reports that a man was lying unresponsive in the street at Collins Avenue just north of Sixth Terrace.

“Officers and medical personnel responded to the scene and upon examination of the male they discovered that he was deceased.

“At present we are working with limited information and we are appealing to members of the public especially those in this community who may have any information to assist us with identifying those who are responsible for this incident or with any information that can lead us to the identity of the man who is now deceased” Knowles said.

The deceased, a black man was clad in a red shirt, dark pants and wore a full beard. Knowles says police will use every tool at their disposal in solving the case.

“It doesn’t appear as if he is someone who frequents the streets and for that reason, we definitely need the assistance of the public.

“The members of the community especially in this area who may have information or who may have seen something that occurred earlier this morning to give us a call.

“Investigators will work every possible lead or will utilize any tool that can assist us in this investigation so of course at some point we will be combing the streets here to determine what information can help us to solve this matter as quickly as possible” she said.
