The Ministry of Social Services Department of Gender and Family Affairs is conducting National Family Week, 2026 with a number of activities from July 26 to August 1: Annual Church Service at St. Cecilia’s Coconut Grove, and a Marriage Recommitment Service at Bahamas Harvest Church (July 26); Visits to Old Folks Homes (July 29); Divorce and Single Forum (July 30, 12 noon, at Min. of Social Services); and Family and Community Day (August 1, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at R.M. Bailey Park).
The Ministry of Social Services, with the Bahamas Christian Council, held Sunday’s annual Marriage Recommitment Service and Seminar at Bahamas Harvest Church.
Under the theme, ‘Honoring the Covenant. Strengthening the Family,’ the purpose of the service was for couples to recommit to one another and strengthen the bond and sanctity of marriage before God: in so doing, reconnect and rediscover themselves.
In attendance was the Hon. Bacchus Rolle, Minister of State for Social Services, and Mrs. Phedra Rahming-Turnquest, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Services.
State Minister Rolle spoke on marriage, which he deemed “the most sacred institution in our society.”
He explained that marriage, built on love, trust, sacrifice, sharing, forgiveness, and compromise, creates stable homes, rears confident children, and helps build strong communities.
Stronger communities become the foundation of a thriving nation.
He congratulated the couples in attendance for their recommitment to one another, and concluded by saying that healthy marriages flourish when communities surround them, and give encouragement, and practical support. And when families thrive, our nation prospers.
