Residents of Bozine Town have fought for decades to receive title for the land that they live on. The issue has been fought in court all the way to the Privy Council and now Parliamentarians are set to debate it.
Minister of Housing and Urban Renewal, the Hon. Keith Bell announced in the House of Assembly of Wednesday that the government has moved to acquire the title for the land in question. He said, “this allows the Ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal too begin the process of bringing certainty where there has been long standing confusion.”
According to the minister the objective is to ensure that families who have lived on the land for years can obtain lawful and marketable title.
Bell pledged that the government is determined to put and end to the issue of land title confusion. He said, “many years ago a quieting action was commenced in relation to lands in the Bozine Town area. That action began with the intention of bringing clarity and certainty. However, like many matters in out country’s land history the process did not reach a timely conclusion. It laid dormant for many years. When the matter was eventually determined decade later the result created a deeply undesirable situation.”
