The Parliamentary Registration Department has begun issuing biometric voters cards on the island of Grand Bahama.
Parliamentary Commissioner, Harrison Thompson said the cards are part of an effort to modernize the electoral process and improve voter verification. He said, “we start out with West Grand Bahama and we’ll be moving throughout the island in the next few weeks or so.”
Thompson assured that voters who opted not to get the biometric card will be allowed to vote using the purple paper card.
West Grand Bahama Administrator, Ricardo Ferguson urged residents to collect their cards and praised the smooth distribution. “Once the bell rings then you find that mad dash and so they process would eliminate that. Even though persons will still be able to use their purple card but the process now happening gives persons an opportunity to forego that rush.”
Residents of West Grand Bahama can collect their cards at the Obadiah Wilchcombe Complex.
