Min. Henfield Receives Copie d’Usage from the Ambassador-Designate of Qatar to The Bahamas


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to advise members of the public that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the Hon. Darren A. Henfield, MP, received the Copie d’Usage of the Ambassador-designate of the State of Qatar, His Excellency Abdulla bin Mohammed Al-Derbasti during a virtual meeting on 18th February, 2021.

Through the Ambassador-designate, who resides in Havana, Cuba, Minister Henfield thanked the Government of Qatar for the humanitarian assistance provided to The Bahamas for medical relief following the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian, as well as assistance to combat the COVID19 Pandemic.

Other matters of mutual interests were discussed, including the need to restart the Bahamian economy amidst the COVID-19 situation, the global vaccination programme, engagement in bilateral investment opportunities and cooperation in other sectors to be explored in the future. Both parties committed to continue the deepening of relations all the while awaiting the return of face-to-face encounters. While the presentation of the Copie d’Usage will allow the Ambassador-designate to undertake activities at
the functional level, he will present his Letters of Credence formally to the Governor-General at a later date.
