As part of the government’s ongoing review of the immigration and labour situation in Grand Bahama, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, the Hon. Fred Mitchell, along with Attorney General, the Hon. Wayne Munroe, Minister of State for Immigration in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Darron Pickstock, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Ellison Greenslade, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Grand Bahama Joel Lewis and senior Ministry officials from Labour and Immigration, met with Grand Bahama Shipyard executives at the Ministry for Grand Bahama on August 12, 2026 to obtain a detailed account on the company’s current state of affairs and learn of its requirements for survival.
Following which, Minister Mitchell held a broader meeting with the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce and several stakeholders, who feed into the jobs in the industrial sector, to discuss labour statistics, training issues and how the country’s policies can help to improve benefits for labourers and workers in Grand Bahama.
