Fashion Designer Navardo Dawkins is the fourth Bahamian to compete in the Mission Catwalk television competition held in Jamaica.
Dawkins spoke with ZNS News about his experience on the show. He said, “it was a lot of pieces I had to make and it was a lot of time restrictions. But it garnered a new creativity in me because I had to work under pressure, be creative und er pressure, finish a garment completely under pressure. So honestly, you guys are in for a treat.”
Dawkins went further calling his experience a culture shock. “As Bahamians we don’t see how privileged we are or we don’t know how privileged we are until we’re surrounded by other ones in our CARICOM countries. So seeing, you know, and hearing their cultures and seeing the foods they make and tasting it, the way they live versus the way I live is like wow we have a lot to be grateful for as Bahamians.”
The fashion designer said that Mission Catwalk is the “opportunity for designers in the CARICOM nations and Bahamians to come after me to present their best. And to be critiqued, of course, on TV, its TV, but you learn so much from it. The experience I experienced is something I can’t even compare it to anything else. It’s just a once in a lifetime experience.”
Dawkins recommends other Bahamian designers enter the competition.
