It was recently revealed that the current Commodore of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), Dr. Raymond King will not be continuing in the position after his five year contract came to an end in mid April.
Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe responded to questions about why King’s contract was not renewed on Wednesday outside of the House Of Assembly. He said, “his appointment came to an end.” Referring to himself Munroe added, “it’s like this job, right, at the end of five years my appointment as Member of Parliament for Freetown will be up. Unlike a political appointment in the military that’s generally it.”
Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard questioned why the services of Dr. King is not being retained given some of the current issues involving the RBDF. “Given what we are facing in Haiti at the moment, given what we are experiencing at our borders as well as given what we’re experiencing in the fisheries sector where we still have incursion from Dominican fishers and others to the north one would think that that Defence Force in its pivotal role that you want continuity in terms of the leadership.”
The national security minister confirmed that the new RBDF head will be Floyd Moxey assisted by Captains Carlon Bethel and Natasha Miller.
