The Minister of National Security spoke to members of the media on the issue of sexual assault on the sidelines of a cybersecurity conference on Wednesday.
The Hon. Wayne Munroe revealed that an eleven year old girl had been impregnated by her mother’s boyfriend and subsequently aborted the baby by taking pills. He said, “matters like that are troubling because the child must have a safe place to go, feel safe that they know somebody they can report it to.”
Munroe also spoke to the need to instill messages about the dangers of strangers in children. “When I was growing up there was a push that you didn’t talk to strangers. We need these sorts of messaging and messages back again and that is what we intend to do.”
The National Security Minister advises women who are subject to financial abuse that they do not have to give in or compromise because someone refuses to pay which is now in contravention of the new Protection Against Violence Act and should be reported.
To offenders Munroe said, “please stop it so that you don’t have to be subject to after you complete your sentence and you will have to do all of your sentence. The public must then be protected against you cause that is behaviour that cannot be explained in any rational way.”
