An investiture ceremony was held at Resorts World Bimini for eleven recipients of national awards and honours on the island. Governor General, His Excellency, the Most Hon. Cornelius Smith was on hand to present the awards.

The island’s Member of Parliament, the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe, told the honourees, “all of you have contributed so significantly to the growth and development of this island of Bimini and it makes me so proud to see all of you. It is so true, before I met any of you, I knew one person, I knew Gilbert Rolle because he was one of the greatest athletes I’d ever seen. But I didn’t know Biminites but then I got to know all of you and since my experience you’ve made me a better person.”

Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis was also at the event and brought the keynote address. He told those in attendance, “on behalf of the government and people of The Bahamas I have accepted this invitation from the Governor General to pay special tribute to the recipients of the 2022 national awards and honours. I am indeed humbled and grateful to be able to be here in Bimini today to bring remarks on this most auspicious occasion as we celebrate these outstanding Bahamians whose work and contributions to national development have helped shape The Bahamas.”
