The West Grand Bahama and Bimini by-election was held on November 22nd with the Progressive Liberal Party’s standard bearer Kingsley Smith winning at the polls. Smith is now the MP elect for the seat left vacant due to the sudden passing of the late Hon. Obadiah Wilchcombe.
Chief Clerk at the House Of Assembly David Forbes gave an update on when the public can expect Smith to be sworn in on Tuesday. Forbes said, “the parliament will now have to welcome its new member for West Grand Bahama and Bimini. In order for him to cross the bar he will have to take the oath of of allegiance…we’ll do that at the bar whenever it is arranged for him to come. I can’t see exactly if that’s gonna happen tomorrow but I’m not seeing the preparation for doing it tomorrow so I’m assuming it will be done the following week. And you know the law say as soon as its practicable, so I think everything will be in proper order by next week Wednesday.”
