Five-time NFL Pro Bowler and 2017 Comeback Player of the Year of the Los Angeles Chargers Keenan Allen and other football stakeholders paid a courtesy call on Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Mario Bowleg, on June 8, 2022, at the Ministry’s Head Office on University Boulevard. They are in town for the inaugural Bahamas All-Pro Celebrity Weekend, scheduled to be held June 9th-13th, at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.
Also present from the Ministry were Permanent Secretary Eugene Poitier, Under Secretary Montez Williams; Director of Sports Timothy Munnings; Deputy Director of Sports Oria Knowles; Honourary Lifetime Member of the IAAF and Consultant Pauline Davis-Thompson, and Commander Natasha Miller. Bahamian National Football League players Michael Strachan and Rashad Fenton are also scheduled to take part in Celebrity Weekend, along with other NFL players and members, in the event that is “powered” by REV and the Ministry. Jonathan Lord, lead consultant and co-organiser of JML Strategies, noted that the athletes are donating their time to take part in the various scheduled events, that will also include community-based initiatives and free camps for children and teenagers. Minister Bowleg lauded the Celebrity Weekend and its camps for potentially making a difference in the lives of young Bahamians through teaching them about various aspects of football.
