During an appearance at a press briefing held at the Office of the Prime Minister, Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe revealed findings of a one day mission trip to Haiti. Munroe along with Minister of Labour and Immigration, the Hon. Keith Bell were a part of an international delegation headed by Jamaican Prime Minister, Andrew Holness.
Munroe told reporters, “they indicated that they had limitations on the ability to engage with the gangs in the areas that the gangs control. They needed assistance with training. They needed assistance with advice of how to structure the Haitian National Police. The Haitian National Police deals not only with policing, they deal with the coast guard, they deal with prisons and they need assistance with advice across all of those areas. It was disclosed that their police college is located in a gang invested area and there was a need for relocation. An issue of training of members for the Haitian National Police in a third country was raised and would be under consideration.”
