Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard hosted a press conference on Wednesday where he called for an improved system for Junkanoo. This comes as control of the annual Boxing Day and New Year’s Day parades are set to change from the Junkanoo Corporation of New Providence (JNCP) to the National Junkanoo Committee (NJC).
Mr. Pintard is of the view that the decision to change the management of the parades is politically driven. He told reporters, “Junkanoo is one of the greatest expressions of Bahamian identity and its rooted in our community, it’s fueled by out passion as a people and it’s been protected by many generations of committed Junkanooers, practitioners. It belongs to no government, no politician, no political party. It belongs to the Bahamian people especially those who have built, sustained and protected it for generations.”
