The Leader of the Opposition and Member of Parliament for Marco City, the Hon. Michael Pintard addressed the House of Assembly on immigration in its February 20th sitting.
Pintard said, “The Bahamas is at a crossroad. This parliament has a chance to raise to the occasion and in a bipartisan way chart a course that comprehensively addresses the complex and deeply troubling problem of illegal immigration and irregular migration. We must not end this debate without arriving at a shared approach to tackling a familiar challenge that ordinary approaches have failed to alter. It cannot be business as usual. We must send a clear message to the public that our approach from this day forth will be fundamentally different and it will be sustained and results driven and our work will be transparent and the policies we pursue will be evidence based.”
The opposition was seeking to have a select committee established on immigration.
