Two men were shot and killed in an attempted robbery incident at Royal Bank located in the Palmdale Shopping Center on Sunday afternoon.
One of the men was a police reserve Inspector who was making a deposit at the bank. Commissioner of Police, Shanta Knowles was on the scene were she provided details of the shooting. She said, “a man who we now identify as a police reserve inspector was at the deposit drop box making a deposit when he was accosted by a group of men. There was an exchange of gunfire resulting in two of them, the police inspector and another man being shot.”
The other suspects fled the scene in a small white Japanese vehicle. Knowles said, “we are appealing to the public. We know that they others, the other men who accompanied the man who had been shot got into a small white vehicle and left this area. A team of officers are combing the streets of New Providence for any information that can lead to the arrest of those other men. I’m appealing to members of the public who may have information as to who they are to turn them in.”
Commissioner Knowles also advised those making deposits and using ATM machines how to do so safely. She said, “we have been appealing to the public to be careful, to use these facilities, not alone, but with others. Use the armoured vehicles, the companies, for making deposits. We continue to preach this message unfortunately not everyone listens to the message but we will continue to advise business people to use the armoured companies to make deposits, simply call 919 and ask for assistance.”
Police investigations into this matter continues.
